East from Tatra Mountains, on the plains of river Visla, was land of Croats, a part of the original great Slavic homeland. It happened, that countless tribes started engaging themselves in wars and skirmishes, fighting for land, boundaries and villages.
A strong clan lead by two brothers, Cech and Lech, decided to leave the area and find a new place where they could live and work in peace. The clan headed west, crossed river Odra, passing villages with inhabitants speaking similar languages. After they passed river Labe, the land was becoming more forsaken, the population more scarce, dressed only in animal furs, living in poor shacks or holes dug in the ground, speaking foreign languages. These people were hostile, frequently fighting the passing by clan. Cech, Lech and their people fought them off, continuing further west.
Finally the wilderness become so hard to pass, that people started complaining. At this time clan reached the third river Vltava and Cech pointed at a nearby hill towering the surrounding vast flat land. His group decided to settle nearby and called the hill "Rip". To honor their leader they started calling themselves the Czechs.
After several bountiful years, the clans grew in numbers, inhabiting neighboring areas and Lech with his people decided to move south east. After three days of travel, they found their new home. The clan set a large fire to signal their new location to their relatives around Rip. The new town was since referred to as "Kourim", the smoke city.
Forty years later, in the age of 86 Cech died. Whole nation mourned, his body was burned in a great ceremony, his ashes buried and his grave was marked with a large round stone mound. For generation people visited the mound, mourned and thanked their leader.
